The mandate of the British Columbia Llama & Alpaca Association is for the enjoyment and promotion of these wonderful creatures.

The British Columbia Llama & Alpaca Association Society was formed in 1989 to provide information sharing for our llama and alpaca owners throughout B.C. Our club includes both llama and alpaca breeders an has grown to be a central force in the camelid industry.

Some of the things our club has been involved in include:

  • Llama rescue of lost or abandoned animals
  • Evacuation of alpaca and llama herds during forest fires
  • Shearing clinics and demonstrations

Some of the British Columbia Llama & Alpaca Association achievements have included:

  • Showing and handling clinics and demonstrations.
  • Support of 4H clubs.
  • Health care clinics for alpacas and llamas (vaccinations, nail trimming, birthing, skin care).
  • Fibre workshops for spinning, weaving, felting, dyeing.
  • National llama and alpaca conventions:  BCLAA members have organized two of these major conventions.  One at Cariboo College in Kamloops and one at Silver Star resort in Vernon.
  • For many years BCLAA put on the Spring Classic Llama and Alpaca show. This was held in Kamloops and in Armstrong.
  • BCLAA members have provided llama and alpaca demonstrations at the IPE for the past 4 years.
  • BCLAA members convene the llama and alpaca division at the Salmon Arm Fall Fair.

Some of the above clinics and workshops are held at the members farms when that farm hosts a regular club meeting.  Some of the clinics and workshops are hosted by BCLAA and given by invited experts.

The underlying theme of the events is the care and handling of the animals; the use of the fibre product; promotion and demonstrations of the animals.
